In Sanshin-Kan we use the ranks and belts that you can see here. The time between promotions is individual and depends on time and effort put forth in the training. The Time to Train can be used as a guideline.

In the beginning of the 20th century when karate started to spread from Okinawa to Japan mainland and then to the rest of the world a system of coloured belts was adopted from judo.
Different schools of karate have different colours. But the most common systems starts with a white belt on the grade of 10th kyu. The grades down to 1 kyu than have diferent colours and after that the student receives a black belt on the grade of 1th dan (Shodan).
All dan grades is represented of a black belt. In some schools a student of higher dan grades have the right to use belts in other colours
At the end of every semester and at some training camps there is graduation for the members at Sanshin karate club.
